A rare green glass dish, Model 9769, designed by Alvar Aalto and produced by Iittala during the 1940s/1950s.

The dish belongs to a series of four stackable, free-form glass elements that together create a sculptural flower-like composition. Each piece can also be appreciated independently as a functional object and an expression of Aalto’s organic approach to modern design.

Mouth-blown into a wooden mould, the dish has a flowing, irregular outline and subtle variations resulting from its traditional production method. The rich green glass accentuates the softly undulating form and gives the low dish a strong sculptural presence.

An important and highly collectible example of Finnish glass design, Model 9769 works beautifully as an individual decorative object or as part of a curated collection of historic Scandinavian design.
